New Restaurant Openings in Manhattan Beach & the South Bay This August
The South Bay food and retail scene keeps moving, and this stretch of summer has brought some genuinely exciting additions.
From a Venice cafe favorite finally landing at Metlox to a record-and-yakitori listening lounge in Hermosa Beach, here's what's new around Manhattan Beach and the South Bay worth adding to your list this month.

1332 Hermosa Avenue, Hermosa Beach
Part listening lounge, part yakitori counter—Kasai Records is one of the more unexpected concepts to land in Hermosa Beach in a while.
Vinyl and cassettes line the walls, mid-century design sets the mood, and the kitchen turns out skewers alongside dinner and lunch service. Dinner runs 5–11 PM and lunch 11 AM–2 PM. If you've been looking for a place to linger over a record and a drink, this is it.
3160 N Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Village
Hofman Hospitality Group's modern American restaurant opened its doors on July 21, bringing its first South Bay location after Long Beach and Topanga.
Expect locally sourced dishes, craft cocktails, and a room that runs later than most MB spots—open until midnight most nights, with weekend brunch from 9 AM to 3 PM and a weekday social hour from 3 to 6 PM.
451 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Manhattan Beach (Metlox)
The Italian gelato brand—known for small-batch flavors made fresh daily with organic milk and cream—has opened its doors at Metlox.
Expect classics like pistacchio and stracciatella alongside rotating seasonal flavors, plus an affogato bar for pairing espresso with gelato. A solid stop after dinner downtown or a reason for an evening walk on its own.
401 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Manhattan Beach (Metlox)
The Venice all-day cafe opened its sixth location on July 31, moving into the former Pitfire Pizza space at Metlox.
Breakfast runs until 3 PM with smoothie bowls, ricotta hotcakes, and breakfast burritos, while lunch and dinner bring wood-fired pizzas, fish tacos, and kale-pesto pasta. There's also an espresso bar, fresh juices, and a curated natural wine list—open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM.
36 Pier Avenue, Hermosa Beach
A neighborhood wine bar built around Sicilian and Palestinian traditions, Malendrina is meant for slowing down—shared mezze, small plates, and a thoughtfully chosen wine list in a warm, low-lit space.
It's open daily from noon to 9 PM, with walk-ins always welcome, though the corner tables tend to go fast. Worth booking ahead if you want to hold a spot.
411 Main St, El Segundo
Unico's Japanese-Italian fusion concept—already a hit in Redondo Beach—has expanded to Main Street in El Segundo.
The menu blends Japanese technique with Italian pasta traditions, known as wafu-pasta, including standouts like mentaiko pasta and a koji-spiked cauliflower soup. Hours run Sunday–Thursday 11 AM–9 PM and Friday–Saturday 11 AM–10 PM.
A couple more worth watching for, even though they're not open just yet.
Coucou — the French bistro already established in Venice and West Hollywood is taking over the former Nando Trattoria space on Manhattan Avenue in downtown Manhattan Beach. Expect steak frites, oysters, and elevated French comfort food in a lively, design-forward room.
HomeState — the Texas-style breakfast taco favorite is on its way to The Point in El Segundo (850 S. Pacific Coast Hwy), taking over the former Tocaya Organica space. No firm opening date yet, but tacos, queso, and Frito pie are on the way.
Six openings—plus a couple more on the way—is a good reminder of how much the South Bay food and retail scene keeps evolving, even in neighborhoods that feel fully built out.
Whether it's a new dinner spot, a gelato stop, or somewhere to grab a bottle and stay awhile, there's a lot worth trying this month.
