September in the South Bay: Events, Beach Days & Things to Do

September might just be one of our favorite months in the South Bay. The summer crowds start to settle, the weather is still beautiful, and there’s plenty happening from Manhattan Beach to Hermosa Beach and beyond.

Whether you’re looking for something to do over Labor Day weekend, want to catch live music by the beach, or simply need an excuse to soak up a few more long evenings outside, here are a few things to have on your radar this month.

Fiesta Hermosa | September 5–7

Labor Day weekend means the return of Fiesta Hermosa, one of Hermosa Beach’s biggest community traditions.

Downtown Hermosa comes alive for three days with the Makers Mercado, food, live music, a mini carnival, and The Garden for the 21+ crowd. It’s always a fun way to spend part of the long weekend — wander Pier Avenue, grab something to eat, listen to music, and end the day at the beach.

One More Concert in the Park | September 6

Summer isn't quite over yet.

Manhattan Beach wraps up its Concerts in the Park season on Sunday, September 6 with ABBA LA at Polliwog Park. Bring a blanket, pack some snacks, and enjoy one last Sunday evening of live music in the park.

Hermosa Beach Open | September 10–13

It wouldn't be the South Bay without a little beach volleyball.

The Hermosa Beach Open returns September 10–13, bringing competitive beach volleyball back to the sand. Even if you're not following every match, it's a fun weekend to walk down, watch some volleyball, and enjoy Hermosa at its best.

September 10–13 | Hermosa Beach

Movies at the Beach | September 12 & 19

Movie night, but make it South Bay.

Hermosa Beach has two Movies at the Beach evenings on the calendar this month. Grab a blanket, something cozy for when the sun goes down, and make a night of it.

Hermosa Beach Concert Series | September 13 & 20

If you're not ready to give up outdoor concert season, you don't have to.

Hermosa's September calendar includes two Sunday afternoon concerts on September 13 and September 20. It's an easy way to stretch summer just a little longer — music, friends, and an afternoon by the water.

Coastal Cleanup Day | September 19

Want to give a little love back to the coastline we get to enjoy every day?

Coastal Cleanup Day takes place in Hermosa Beach on September 19. It's a great opportunity to spend a morning outside while helping keep our beaches and surrounding community beautiful.

7th Annual Downtown Manhattan Beach Car Show | September 27

Cars by the coast? Yes, please. The 7th Annual Downtown Manhattan Beach Car Show rolls into town on Sunday, September 27, bringing an impressive lineup of cars to the streets of Downtown Manhattan Beach.

Come stroll downtown, check out the cars, grab coffee or brunch, and make a morning of it. It's an easy Sunday outing and another fun excuse to spend some time downtown.

Don't Forget the Farmers Markets

September is also a great month to get back into your local farmers market routine.

The Manhattan Beach Farmers Market takes over downtown every Tuesday, while Redondo Beach hosts its market by the pier on Thursdays and Hermosa Beach has its Friday market.

Pick up flowers, produce, something good for dinner — and maybe make a coffee or lunch stop while you're there.

September Might Be the South Bay's Best-Kept Secret

We love summer here, but September has a charm of its own. The days are still warm, the beach is still calling, and there's a little more room to slow down and enjoy everything that makes living in the South Bay so special.

From Labor Day weekend in Hermosa to sunset walks on The Strand, outdoor concerts, farmers markets, and evenings at the beach, there are plenty of reasons to stay local this month.

And if spending September here has you thinking about making the South Bay home, we're always happy to help. Whether you're exploring Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, or somewhere nearby, reach out anytime — we'd love to help you find the neighborhood and home that fit the way you want to live.
